When you look good, you look good”. Who doesn’t meet 93-year-old Ilona and love her straight away? She is one of the many muses of Advanced Style, the world famous blog dedicated to inspiring glamorous women of certain age that has now become a hit documentary. We are forever convinced: style is timeless.

Based on Ari Seth Cohen’s famous blog of the same name, the documentary Advanced Style focuses on the lives of seven independent and stylish women aged 62 to 95, whose fashion and life philosophy challenges conventional ideas about ageing and beauty.

As Cohen explains in the film: “These women really challenge our notion of getting older. They really embrace their age, feel good about themselves, and every time they leave the house, they look and feel their best.” His blog, founded in August 2018, quickly became a trendy for it’s unique focus on women over 60, perhaps fashion’s most unjustly overlooked age group.

Years later, Cohen joined forces with filmmaker Lina Plioplyte, a Lithuanian born filmmaker based in New York, who has specialised in short films, music videos and documentaries about bright personalities. Advanced Style, the story of how the blog became a fashion phenomenon, was launched in September 2013 and quickly became a mouth to mouth success; one that even extended to the stars of the show.

Our friend Ilona, for example, has become quite the sensation, scoring modelling jobs, appearing on billboards, and even working with Dita Von Teese.

In the film there is also room for less cheerfull moments, inevitably linked to the subject of age. 95-year-old Zelda Kaplan, who appears in the movie, passed away while sitting front row at New York Fashion Week. “I think I was born happy,” She mentioned in the film. “I love fashion. I think good style improves the environment for everybody.”
