London gears up for Masterpiece, starting tomorrow at the exclusive South Grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. 3000 years of art history, carefully selected by stemmed curators, galleries and antique dealers. A place to surrender to beautiful design, timeless classics and immaculate craftsmanship. Here’s a few highlights that have caught our eye at this year’s edition.
Masterpiece is a collector’s dream because it brings together 3000 years of art history, from rare antiques to modern art. This year, a rare painting by Andy Warhol has made its first ever public showing: The Socialite (1986–87).
This portrait of Olga Berde Mahl, a NY attorney and real estate agent, was a commission used to supplement the cost of Warhol’s studio at 123 Watts Street. Photo courtesy of Long-Sharp Gallery.
