London Gallery Weekend returns with a packed programme of openings and live events, inviting audiences to explore some of the city's most compelling new exhibitions across a range of venues and disciplines.
At Cedric Bardawil, visitors can catch a live set from indie art pop band This Is The Deep, staged alongside Alice Macdonald's exhibition 'Every Window is a Holiday.' The group takes cues from the pop classicism of the 1950s and 60s, with arrangements that nod to producer Phil Spector and filmmaker David Lynch. Their cinematic sound layers horns, strings, percussion and synth into an immersive sonic and visual experience.
Victoria Miro hosts the opening reception of Shahzia Sikander's 'High Seas; Closed Skies.' Central to the show is the artist's acclaimed new animation, '3 to 12 Nautical Miles,' a luminous cinematic work that traces the lasting currents of power and trade shaping the global landscape from the nineteenth century to today.
Lisson Gallery presents a new iteration of 'Zanzibar' by Lubaina Himid and Magda Stawarska at 67 Lisson Street. The mixed-media installation explores memory, movement, loss and belonging, pairing nine diptychs painted by Himid in 1999 with a 38-minute, multi-layered libretto composed by Stawarska.
TINA opens Katie Shannon's exhibition 'Bedding,' a show that moves between interior collapse and outward projection. Here, the 'outside' — rendered through performance, nightlife and social excess — emerges not as a means of escape but as a frenzied counterpoint to inertia.
