At this point, on one doubts of the enduring appeal of Damien Hirsts medically themed objects. This week, the artist has launched his second restaurant in collaboration with chef Mark Hix. Fill your prescription at the bar!
“Pharmacy 2 combines two of my greatest passions; art and food,” said Hirst. Occupying the first floor of Hirst’s Newport Street Gallery, Pharmacy 2 follows the clinical theme inspired by Hirst’s 1992 artwork “Pharmacy”.
Like its predecessor, which was designed by interiors company Universal Design Studio, images of pastel-coloured pills are of course everywhere. Embroided in leather banquettes and embedded into the marble floor. Even the bar stools are topped with tablet shaped seats.
A prescriptions neon sign hangs above the bar and a number of Hirst works will also be exhibited throughout the restaurant, like “Medicine Cabinets” (2010) and butterfly Kaleidoscope paintings.
The wallpaper features different pharmaceutical images, accompanied by a title and a reference to a Biblical passages.
So fun!
