After Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher’s “Learning to Love You More” project and Klaudija Visockyte’s “Please Don’t Leave Me” photography series, comes Peyton Fulford’s “Abandoned Love” project.
‘Abandoned Love’ is a participatory photo series in which Fulford asked her Tumblr followers to send her “phrases from their diary, text messages, and anything else they personally have written in their own words.” Surprise, surprise…she ended up focusing on love. But with a twist: “love and melancholy”, diverging from the usual happy, celebratory phrases, and going for the real life feelings.
She then took these realistic phrases from people’s lives, created banners, and hung them in abandoned buildings throughout Columbus Georgia. As Fulford explains, she “wanted this project to bring light to the actual feelings that are usually shared privately behind closed doors.”
